October 26, 2014-The Sudan Tribune reports today that the Government of Sudan has denounced the decision of the United States to renew economic sanctions on Sudan for another year.

On Friday, President Obama released a note saying, “the actions and policies of the Government of Sudan continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”

Sudan’s foreign ministry said on Sunday that continuing to impose sanctions on Sudan is nothing but political intrigue, clear contradiction and double standards.

“The US administration has since 1997 used different reasons and pretexts to justify its targeting of Sudan,” the ministry said. It accused the US of trying to “intensify pressure on Sudan and economically squeeze the country.”

“Renewing the sanctions will not prevent the Sudanese government from pressing ahead towards the realisation of sustainable peace and development,” the ministry said, accusing the US of meddling in its affairs.
