China’s Foreign Minister defends Chinese presence in Africa

January 19,2015-During his five-nation tour of Africa, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that China will not follow the path of other so called “Western colonists”. This follows after concerns had been raised by various African leaders that locals are not benefitting from Chinese investments on the continent because most of the materials and workers are brought in from China, reports CNBC (South Africa). Mr Wang assured that China’s aid to Africa comes with no strings attached and that China will not try and “steal” Africa’s resources. Wang’s tour includes visits to Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to South China Morning Post (China).
