Al-Shabaab Security Chief Said to be Killed in US Airstrike

December 30, 2014-Uganda’s New Vision reports that an al-Shabaab top intelligence official was killed in an air strike on Monday. Somalia’s National Security Agency is quoted as saying “In a joint operation last night by the Somali national security and the United States, al-Shabaab intelligence chief Abdishakur, also known as Tahlil, who replaced the recently arrested former chief, was eliminated.

The air strike took place near the town of Saacow, 200 miles west of Mogadishu.

The Pentagon confirmed the air strike but did not name the person targeted
