Ugandan Police Foil Attack by al-Shabaab in Kampala

September 12, 2014-CNN reports that Ugandan forces arrested terror suspects and recovered explosives for a designated attack on Kampala. The US Embassy warned Americans to stay inside while the Ugandan police issued a statement saying that they will “effectively defeat whoever tried to endanger the lives and property of the people of Uganda.”

the terror plot, according to CNN, was by Somalia’s al-Shabaab. Ugandan police revealed tha the explosives recovered signaled a copy cat attack like the one carried out at Nairobi’s Westlake Shopping Center last year. Security forces are still looking for suspects.

The US Embassy is quoted as saying, “We are continuing our engagement with Ugandan authorities as we seek to sees the scope of the disrupted al-Shabaab terrorist plot and whether there are members of the cell still at large.

The US recently killed al-Shabaab leader Ahmed Godane, the group’s leader in Somalia.
