Riek Machar Travels to Tanzania

October 21, 2014-The Sudan tribune reports that Riek Machar, head of the rebel opposition, is in Arusha, Tanzania for talks with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete. President Kikwete invited both warring parties to discuss unification of the SPLM. According to Riek Machar’s spokesperson, James Gatdet Dak, “A high level delegation led by our chairman arrived in Arusha on Sunday. The leadership of SPLM/SPLA is invited by the Tanzanian leadership to discuss the political crisis in South Sudan.

The chief negotiator for Riek Machar’s opposition will travel to Sudan on Monday to brief President Omer Hassan Al-Bashir on the progress of the talks.
