Addis Ababa, 7 February 2015 (WIC) – Contesting political parties expressed their readiness to make the upcoming May general elections peaceful and democratic.
The parties told WIC that their members and supporters are ready to discharge their responsibilities to make the election free, fair, democratic and peaceful.
Chairman of the Unity for Justice and Democracy Party (UJDP), Tigistu Awol, said that his party is doing well as well as fielding candidates to take active part in the elections.
“We have been doing our assignments since 2010 so as to make a difference in the upcoming general elections,” Tigistu added.
General Secretary of the Ethiopian Federal Democratic Unity Forum (MEDREK) Gebru Gebremariam said that his party is ready to contribute its share in the on-going democratization process in Ethiopia by taking active part in the elections.
Gebru, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC), added that his party is ready to accept the result of the elections.
Executive Committee Member of the Ethiopian Democratic Party (EDP), Adane Taddese, said “Our party has been working relentlessly since the past five months for the success of the elections.”
According to Adane, his party is ready to become a strong contender in the elections by fielding candidates in all parts of the country.
President of the New Generation Party (NGP), Asfaw Getachew, on his part said that his party is also fielding candidates in all parts of the country.
Chairman of the Ethiopian Peace and Democratic Party (EPDP), Seid Yimer, said that his party has so far fielded 450 candidates for the elections.
He finally called on the public and all political parties to ignore the anti peace propaganda of some group and do their part for the peaceful conduct of the election.
