ICGLR Will Send Election Observers to Burundi

March 14, 2015-Rwanda’s New Times reports that Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) have resolved to send observers to the upcoming election in Burundi. The Ministers say that deployment of observers to Burundi is in support of Burundi holding peaceful and successful elections.

The ICGLR will deploy election monitors before, during and after Burundi’s upcoming May elections. The ICGLR called upon the government of Burundi and all its stakeholders, concluding political parties and civil society organizations, to work together to ensure that the polls are transparent, credible and peaceful.
