Strathink has in its possession three orders signed by General Paul Malong Awan, SPLA General Chief of Staff. The first directive, dated July 8, 2016, General Awan orders Lt. General Mangar Buong Aluenge immediately to launch an offensive and bombardment against Dr. Riek Machar and his forces in Jebel Jujer; disarm and arrest his bodyguards; use all the forces including attack helicopters; and make sure the UNMISS PoC is sealed off and if there is any resistance from UN forces, General issues an order to “deal with them head on.”

In this directive, signed by General Awan to Lt. General Aluenge on July 25, 2016, General Awan orders Lt. General Aluenge to attack the hideout of Dr. Riek Machar. Lt General Aluenge is ordered to bring Dr. Riek Machar in dead or alive to answer all the charges against him and to make sure SPLA forces are deployed along the South Sudan and DRC border to ambush Machar and his forces because he is heading toward DRC.

In this third directive, General Awan orders Lt. General Aluenge to immediately shoot down any uncleared aircraft hovering on South Sudan airspace. General Awan orders Lt. General Aluenge, “don’t spare any aircraft bearing UN symbols in suspected airspace.

This peace agreement was dead on arrival.
